Kitsap Community Resources’ AmeriCorps program’s mission is to provide pro-active educational and outreach programs that compliment existing community services, enrich AmeriCorps members’ lives by instilling in them a passion for performing community service, and increase opportunity and self-reliance for low-income county residents to help them become contributing members of our community.
Members spent the year teaching employment readiness skill classes to low-income clients and tutoring at-risk kindergarten through sixth grade students in Bremerton and Central Kitsap School Districts. They were also involved in community-wide service projects for groups such as Habitat for Humanity, Children of the Nations, and the Kitsap County Fair and Stampede. In addition, AmeriCorps members trained instructors and certified citizens in CPR and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training.
