It's YOUR Money: Claim It!
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a refundable federal income tax credit for low-income working individuals and families.
Did you know that millions of American families who are eligible for the EITC do not claim it, leaving millions of additional tax credit dollars unclaimed.
Even if you didn't earn enough money to file a tax return you may still qualify for a refund up to $5,657.
Do You Qualify? You must:
• Have a social security number for each individual listed on tax return
• Have earned income
• Be U.S. citizen or resident alien all year, or a nonresident alien married to a U.S. citizen or resident alien filing a joint tax return.
• Tax status is not “married filing separately”
• Meet Income Eligibility Guidelines
Income Eligibility Guidelines Earned income and adjusted gross income (AGI) must each be less than:
• $43,279 (or $48,279 if married filing jointly) with 3 or more qualifying children
• $40,295 (or $45,295 if married filing jointly) with 2 qualifying children
• $35,463 (or $40,463 if married filing jointly) with 1 qualifying child.
• $13,440 (or $18,440 if married filing jointly) with no qualifying children
The EITC has no effect on certain welfare benefits. In most cases, EITC payments will not be used to determine eligibility for Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), food stamps, low-income housing or most Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) payments.
How Much Could You Receive?
The EITC Credit can be up to $5,657. Also ask about the Child Tax Credit which can be up to $1,000 for each qualifying child under the age of 17. You can file for up to three years in back taxes.
