New Opportunities Open Up for Single Mom
As a single mom, Catherine was receiving state public assistance when she was directed to the Community Jobs program. She received job skills and customer service training and tapped into other KCR resources such as energy assistance and Head Start for her son.
While her job skills improved, she encountered domestic abuse from a boyfriend. She experienced a setback, going back on public assistance temporarily, but Catherine eventually got a job as a receptionist and applied for KCR transitional housing, which stabilized her life and gave her greater independence. Along the way, Catherine was able to access resources and guidance through KCR. She saved money, cleaned up her credit report, paid her debts, bought furniture, and leased a car. She has since attained regular employment to support herself and her son.
