Parents as Advocates

One of the seven outcomes in the Head Start Parent, Family, and Community Engagement framework is for parents to learn how to advocate for themselves and the needs of their children. One opportunity is an annual trip to the Washington State Capitol in Olympia. At this event parents meet with State Senators and Representatives to let them know that the choices they make in legislation effects real people and real children. This process helps parents learn that they do have a voice and that voices can enact real change in the world.
